The Bar-Kays “Holy Ghost” [1978]

The Bar-Kays have always been a firm favourite, even if their tracks range from the epically cheesy to monstrous funk classics like this. Holy Ghost is a truly special tune though, its a pretty laid back beat with a fantastic vocal from Larry Dodson at the beginning and it would have remained a great funk tune had it finished at the 2m 36 mark. But then it just drops into this wild instrumental funk marathon of horns, screams, wild twangy bass and bongos. For another SIX MINUTES. A track I would imagine would have been amazing to see live. Legendary funk track.
